DVI question-is it digital or analog?

Hi folks,

I am new to LCD and just got a Samsung 244T. I am wondering if the signal via the DVI connection is digital or analog?

I am asking since I need to get a KVM switch to move the monitor between two DVI enabled PC's. Most of the switch I see have a DVI max. res of 1920x1200 analog, and 1600x1200 for digital.

Obviously my monitor is native 1920x1200, so if my video signal is analog I am good to go. But if it's digital, I have to pay close to $200 to get a DVI KVM switch that does 1920x1200 digital switching!

thanks.

I don't know why you started a whole separate thread on this (or didn't just search), but DVI is a digital signal.

The 'analog' part is if you use a DVI->VGA adapter on the DVI-I output from your video card. It's not used at all when you use the port in DVI-D mode.

DVI = Digital Visual Interface

And single-link DVI connections can usually do 1920x1200 without problems (using reduced blanking interval)

thanks,

I started this thread as i have been reading specs on DVI ONLY(no VGA) KVM switches which all were stipulating the res. for both digital and analog signals. If their KVM's only have DVI in/outs, I assumed it could carry an analog signal as well as digital depending on the properties of the panel.

sorry to bother you....
