I have a monitor that only takes HDMI and I have a PC (Win7 Home Premium x64) which has a DVI port and a DisplayPort (no HDMI port). I do not think I need any special features of HDMI, just a "normal" connection from computer to monitor. Which of the following options would you recommend (the price seems to be roughly between $5-$20 for each solution, so not a big factor):
  • HDMI male & DVI male cable
  • HDMI male & DisplayPort male cable
  • HDMI/HDMI cable (which I already have) and an adapter DVI>HDMI
  • HDMI/HDMI cable and an adapter DisplayPort>HDMI

Monitor resolution? What GPU? Does the monitor have speakers that you wanna use?

If it's just a run-of-the-mill 1080p monitor, I'd pick whatever's cheapest, EXCEPT if you need audio, at which point you'll need to pick a solution using the DP port.

Do not need audio and just a normal 1080p monitor.
Ordered a DVI to HDMI cable, thanks for the input - great forum! :)
