DVI not working - need help troubleshooting

I have two PC's and currently one monitor Viewsonic VX2025. I swap the DVI cable from one PC to the other ( without turning it off, I know stupid me) and now both PC's do not work through DVI connection, but work OK with VGA. I tried new cable, same thing. Is there a way to wake up the DVI port or is it fried on the monitor? I don't have another monitor to verify right now, new dell will be here soon. I don't think this is the video cards, since it works (8800GTS) with DVI-VGA adapter and the PC actually shows signal when booting, but it goes dark - no signal when windows are about to load. The oter PC shows nothing. I tried new drivers just in case also. I don't know what else I can do?

Usually accidentally disconnecting a video cable when everything is on shouldn't fry anything. Did you make sure to check that your monitors are on the DVI display mode?

I dont see this option anywhere. The monitor has analog and digital setting. Now for something even weirder. The new PC shows the boot view and I can go to bios with dvi connection, but when windows boots, I lose signal. I already reinstalled drivers and removed the video card, I don't know what to think. I guess I really need new monitor to troubleshoot this further. By the way Bioshock looks like crap through VGA!
