DVI no signal error

So, having put my computer together and powered it up, everything seems to be working fine until I connect it to the monitor which gives me a DVI NO SIGNAL error on it then goes blank. I've tested the monitor on another machine and it works fine so I think it may be the video card.
System specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A UD3
Video Card: Radeon 5850
CPU: Phenom II X4
HD Samsung F3
PSU: Corsair 650
Monitor is a Asus VH 236H

The video card has two DVI plugs, I tried both of them and got the same error. When I power up the machine everything powers up and all the fans start spinning, but that's it.

Its not posting you said? I'd try reseating your memory/checking that everything is plugged in correctly. Also if that doesn't work if you have ANY other expansion cards try taking them out but leaving the video in and see if that works. I've seen a NIC do something similar to a system once.

make sure that you have the cpu power on the motherboard connected... and make sure you have the PCI-e power on the graphic card connected also

Look for a button on your monitor to toggle the mode from analogue to digital. I had to do this with a Samsung and a new ATI card. Just wouldn't autodetect the monitor correctly using a dvi cable. If there is no button use an adapter to pop a vga cable on there. I had to do this with a viewsonic in the same situation. If neither works for you return it. Probably defective.
