DVI issues (BenQ and ATI)

I just purchased a BenQ FP91V+ monitor. I'm using Windows XP SP2. I plugged the dvi (digital) cable to the dvi output of my Sapphire Radeon X600 256mb. When I boot the computer, I can see the Bios post and the Windows XP logo. However, once Windows Desktop appears, the screen goes blank. If I plug the analog cable instead of the dvi cable to the video card, everything works fine.

Is anyone aware of a dvi issue with BenQ monitor and ATI based video cards ?

I have installed all the latest drivers for the video card, monitor, Windows, BIOS.

The goal is to use the DVI cable !!!

Thanks for your help.

It most likely has to do with some driver settings, maybe you have the drivers set to view on a display other than than your regular monitor, perhaps a tv via s-video or something. If this isnt the case, try to find a setting in the driver cp to make it view on all displays, then you can set it to view on your single display later. I can't give you any help as how to use ATI drivers, cause I've never owned an ATI card, or used their drivers.

Thanks Flippe. Your suggestions were correct. I found out that there is an issue with the ATI Catalyst Driver (I installed version 5.6). However, it's still doesn't work. Let me explain.

I first uninstall the monitor driver and the display/video card drivers from the Device Manager. After I rebooted, the monitor was working perfectly in DVI mode in Windows. However, the speed of display was slow since no video card driver was installed.

I then installed the monitor driver... everything still OK.

Then, I installed the ATI Catalyst driver. DVI gone. Only the analog connecting was working. Even if when I installed Hydravision (ATI's multi-display software), the video card didn't recognize the dvi monitor.

So, it's clearly a driver issue.

Did anyone ever experience the same issue ?

Plug in both connections from the video card to the monitor.

Display Properties -> find the monitor that does not have "Use this monitor as the primary device" checkbox ticked, and turn that feature on. Remove the analogue cable, and you should be good to go. Make sure that "Extend my Windows desktop..." is not turned on for either monitor.

Didn't work either.

I do have 2 options under "display properties". Primary and Secondary displays. When I check "Use this monitor as the primary device" for the secondary display, and apply the changes, the monitor stays in Analog mode. Also, in order to select the "...primary device" checkbox, I must check the "Extend my Windows desktop...." option; otherwise, the option of selecting as a primary device is not available.

There is a way to select the DVI output on the monitor, but it always returns to Analog under Windows XP.

Thanks anyways Phil for your help, but I need to find something else ! Any ideas ? I did try lots of things.... it's really a driver isssue. I will rewrite to both Sapphire and ATI.

Forgot to mention the following:

BenQ's tech support replied to the email I sent 2 days ago:
"Would make sure that the DVI settings for resolution are set to native 1280 x 1024. Also would reccomend trying a 2nd cable to see if the issue is the cable and updating your video card driver in case it's a DVI support issue from the card."

Doesn't help much ! I don't think it's a cable issue since (as I mentionned in my first posting) the monitor run in DVI before the Catalyst drivers are installed.
