I just got back from a week long trip, and to my delight I found my new CPU freezer from arctic-cooling. So, I, without turning on my computer after it sat there for a week, opened up the case and installed the fan, having to remove my 6800gt in the process and then putting that back in. I turned on my computer and I noticed that the bottom corner where the clock is was flickering like it was getting interference somehow... but I couldn't figure it out because I use DVI, not analog. I thought my fan was causing this, so I unplugged it and ran the computer for a minute or two on only the heatsink, but the flickering stayed. I switched my DVI cable to an analog one and the problem disappeared. I also tried lowering my res from 1600x1200 to 1024x768 and the problem went away again. It?s not my monitor because I tried another computer with DVI on it and it didn?t have a problem? it was the same cable too. I tried installing the new Nvidia drivers, but that didn?t fix it. Another weird thing is that the level of interference changes when I do things on the computer. For instance, when I?m looking at my desktop, and I click on the start bar, a bunch of interference appears on the screen above the clock. Also I can affect the shape of the interference by moving my mouse to that region. It?s extremely weird.
Did I possibly crush my graphics card or damage the contacts to the motherboard when I moved it out to put the fan in? How about bad memory or a damaged processor? Is there some setting that got switched on somehow?
