I just got a Viewsonic VP2000s, and it didn't come with a DVI cable. The specs said that the conector is a DVI-I conection for digital. I purchased a DVI-I cable and it doesn't work. Do I need a DVI-D? What's a DVI-A connection? Thanks in advance for anyone who helps.

It should work for you I think.

Does your monitor have an option to switch between VGA and DVI input? Anything about it in the manual?

Yeah, I can switch to DVI-A, DVI-D and D-SUB (VGA). Is there any configuration I am missing out on? Thanks.

Quick lesson:

DVI-I: Carries both a digital and analog signal
DVI-D:Just a digital signal
DVI-A: Not an official standard, it is the nanlog portion of the signal that the DVI-I cable carries.

Your video card is putting out a DVI-I signal, IIRC and you SHOULD be able to connect and DVI cable between the card and monitor and then select 'DVI-D' on the monitor. If you're doing dual monitors, make sure you've enable the second monitor in the control panel once that is done.

I'm going to be doing dual monitors. I actually activated the second one with only this lcd plugged in. I switched to DVI-A mode and saw a picture, DVI-D was still black...

Are you sure I didn't get the wrong cable? I see there is a DVI-D connection that has a different pin configuration than the one I purchased.

No. DVI-I will carry a DVI-D connection. DCI-I carries BOTH. a DVI-D cable would not carry the analog signal.
