DVI -- Does it matter?

I am using the vprMatrix 17" LCD on a Geforce1DDR which has a DVI port. I was wondering, does it really matter which model video card I use if I am using DVI? I know the Geforce1 is kinda old, so I was wondering if something like a Radeon 9000 DVI would give me a faster/better viewing experience?

In your case, yes. Instead of 9000, get either a 9100, 9000 pro or 8500(LE).

"faster/better"... well the Radeon 9000 will certainly be much much faseter than a GeForce 256 DDR. But if you are concerned about visual IQ, I don't believe you'll benefit much from a newer video card...

An ATi 9000 would provide more 3D performance and better image quality over your GeForce.

I don't care too much about 3D, since I use it at work. I really care about 2D and DVI performance.

Take a look at your video card. Read the numbers/letters screened onto the dvi controller chip, and post it here. It'll probably start with SI.

since you are using DVI, i don't think that the board type really makes much of a difference, IQ wise.

i don't consider it particuraly old. DVI tech really hasn't changed all that much in the past few years. as long as your are fine with the performance (3d and 2d), there is no need to get a new card just because the existing one is "old". if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

the geforce is still a capable little card...

i don't think moving to ati will gain you anything in 2d quality over a dvi connection.
