DVI connection vs Analog connection on same LCD

so let's say i have 2 desktops, each with its own keyboard and mouse. one has DVI out and the other has regular VGA out. let's say i have an LCD that has 1 DVI in and 1 VGA in.

would i be able to use the LCD for both machines and just use the Line in selector on the LCD to control which gets displayed?

there's not some DVI vs VGA override or something right?

Yes, it works perfectly on my Dell 1905FP.
