DVI Cable

I just bought a new LCD monitor that came with a DVI cable. There are only pins on either side of the connection. The other DVI Cable that I ordered for something else has pins all the way across.

Could someone please explain the difference and would I be better to use the other one? thanks

Monitors up to 1920x1200 do not need a fully wired (dual channel) DVI cable, they use only one channel. Also, the pins for analog VGA signal are possibly omitted as well.

Despite the usual "high end" makers marketing, there is no such thing as a "better" cable for digital signals. Either you got the right /type/ and the signal will get there 100 percent intact, or you got the wrong one and it won't. No inbetweens.
