DVI Cable type for full resolution on a dell U2711?

Hi, I've got a quick question about the Dell U2711 monitor - we want to run two of them at the full resolution of 2560x1440 and I've been finding conflicting information about the cable that is needed to run at this resolution. Everywhere I've looked said that you need to use a dual link DVI cable, but does it matter if the video card port is dual link DVI-I or dual link DVI-D? Will both of those port types work for full resolution or only one of them?

DVI-I simply means that it has additional pins for sending an analog signal (which allows cheap-o passive DVI-to-VGA adapters that used to come bundled with graphics cards to work with it) so it has no bearing on whether or not it will affect your monitor.

The difference between DVI-I and DVI-D is whether or not an analog signal is provided as well as the digital signal. There is also a DVI-A which is only an analog signal. DVI-I has both an analog and digital signal, while DVI-D has only a digital signal.

The presence of an analog signal is only useful for VGA monitors. Thus, it doesn't really matter for you if you don't plan on using a VGA only monitor. Dual link is of course the best option for high resolutions.
