DVI cable prices?

I realize that online is usually a lot cheaper than BM, but can someone explain to me the extreme dichotomy between the prices of DVI-DVI cables at Newegg and everywhere else (specifically BM retailers, because i can't find cables at a lot of online places...). Usually when I need something and it's out-of-stock online, I can just go pick it up at BM, but usually it doesn't hit the wallet 4x as hard...

Is it just some difference in the model that Newegg sells or something, or is this just massive retail inflation?

Massive retail inflation, generally (you'll see this with a lot of small parts). Also, a lot of retail stores will try to sell you (or only carry!) Monster(TM)(R)(C) Super-Mega-Ultra-Uber-Gold-Platinum-Iridium-Diamond-Plated-Special Edition cables, which home theater people seem to think are necessary...

haha.....so true....

Also, chances are that any big chain B&M retail store you go to will ONLY be selling Belkin brand cables - the most overpriced brand I've ever seen. When I went into CompUSA one time to check out their prices for DVI-to-VGA dongles, the Belkin one they had was almost $30. Your basic 6ft USB cable usually runs around $23 from them, which is highway robbery if I've ever seen it.

I honestly don't know of ANY big computer retailer that sells anything BUT Belkin, which seems like a virtual monopoly to me. This is especially bad if you wind up living in a small town and don't have a PC Club or PC Recycle handy (like I do) to go to when you need cheap cables in a hurry.
