DVI cable dilemma for LCD

Hmm okay, so I just bought a Samsung 19" SyncMaster 193P Plus. It comes with DVI in and it came with a generic DVI cable. However I have this really great DVI400 monster cable (A dvi cable). It's gold plated, thick, shielding, etc..

Okay the essential problem is, the monster cable is better slightly. However..the monster cable does not have the ferrets on the cable right before the connectors. The generic cable does have these ferrets. Although the monster cable works fine..but aren't those ferrets there to protect the monitor from surges and etc?

^ Yes I know the above picture for the generic cable is a VGA, however that's what it looks like..except replace the connectors with DVI. Should I ditch the monster cable??

Not that I know of? I thought they were just to help the connector itself stay in. You do mean the things that screw in at the side, right?

Nah, ferrets might hurt any the mice you have lying around, but they'd just get shocked if a surge cames their way. Come to think of it, their fur might even cause problems due to static.

Ferrites on the other hand, might help with EMI but probably aren't necessary in a short run. If you can return the Monster cable, do so -- they're extremely over priced and often no better than generics. If not, try 'em both and if you think you can see a difference, go with whatever looks better. Of course if you prefer the Monster cable (aka placebo effect), don't let any serious hardware geeks know, otherwise they'll laugh at you.

Well..thing is..I get monster cables for dirt cheap..like 90% off....so .. I might as well use it. But yeah I think they're pretty lame for cost and what they really do. Maybe I will just use the normal one.

There is no "better" in DVI cables, at least not as far as display quality is concerned. The DVI signal is a digital data stream - it either gets there 100% unharmed or not at all.
Spending extra for "gold plated" or "thick shielding" is useless, selling these things /just so/ stands on the legal side of fraud.

90% off? thats regular priced.

Read a deal on HD from radio shack: $130 monster DVI cable versus $13 generic DVI cable.
