DVDx and Nero for SVCD compilation

Well Hooray!

I finally made an SVCD 😀

After around 6 months of reading guides, re-reading guides and getting aboslutely nowhere near a working burned SVCD disk - I now have one in my grubby mitts 🙂

However, I would like to point out that the methods described (and followed by me) were not really that accurate.

To make an SVCD with DVDx all you need to do is use DVDx to rip the movie from the DVD - then burn the image using the SVCD template in Nero.

It is so simple I can't beleive it!

I used VCDEasy last time and the results were unwatchable.... 🙁

Try the DVDx and Nero method if you were like me banging your head off a wall and getting nowhere 🙂

Or did you have a small one?
Well it was a cold day 😱

There is an option to set the max size (74min, 80min etc) for each disk - basically in this particular case it broke the DVD down into 3 separate .mpeg files which can in turn be individually burned to a CDR.

You don't actually see it do this - it just rips the entire DVD then when you look in the ripped DVD directory you will find the various files of some 700+MB's which you assume will not fit on a CDR - not sure how it works - it must compress them I guess.

So once again, what happens if you come up to Nero with a single 3GB avi file? will Nero split it for you?

I have had good success using Nero Express if my file is already VCD-MPEG2, does anyone actually use Nero to encode? How is the speed/quality on that?

Or you could have used dvd2svcd.. I never had much luck with the nero plugin.

I actually tried DVD2SVCD many times - each time without success "I/O Error 112" etc etc.

DVDx seems to be the most straightforward and simple method so far. 🙂

DVDx converts the DVD to .mpeg format.

Nero then burns in the SVCD mode in virtually the same time as it takes to burn a regular disk - only a few minutes.
The longest process is the DVDx processing time which is essentially an overnight job - just set it up to switch off after the task is completed and in the morning you will have some nice "made for CD-R" sized files to burn 😀
