dvds will not play in fullscreen

DVDs will not playback in fullscreen, only in a window for both Windows Media Player and Nero Showtime. It goes to the fullscreen mode but image and sound cut out. This is a recent development and it is not my monitor (I just bought a new one and it does the same thing). Did anyone have this problem with the most recent official nvidia drivers? Should I try different graphics drivers?
