dvdr/sat/lcd tv screen wierdness?!?

I have a stand alone rca dvd recorder connected to tv a directv box. The main connection from satellite to recorder is s video cable, and hdmi from dvd to tv. I am seeing wierd lines in the tv, like static in the background, such as black lines moving across the screen vertically. What are those lines, and how do i stop them? Possible interference or something?
