I've been fighting with settings and codecs for about 5 days now, trying to find the best one (or sometimes one that works) for encoding DVDz from my server to play on the Xbox 360. The network is setup, I can get a few things to play usually from the cell phone category).

What is the best setting (video codec & container and audio setup) to use for this? Also, what resolutions are best? I have a plain (albeit decent) TV, no widescreen or HD stuff.

DVDFab Mobile does too. However, even with the presets, it allows you to tweak it. That being said, I've done DVD > PSP and it has worked perfectly, but I've never tried DVD > 360. I may try it to see if I can offer you some help.

Thanks! :)

I did find this Xbox 360 video FAQ which was some help. Doing a lot of runs to see how vids come out, and comparing DVDFab and Handbrake, to see which come out better.

I can't get anything from Handbrake to work right. Just throws an error on the Xbox 360 when I try to play it. I have gotten some of the DVD Fab ones to work though. Just a matter of finding the right combination after trying them all I guess, which is what it is doing now.

I use Fairuse Wizard to do my encoding and I've been using Xvid/Ac3 in the .avi container and they stream great and retain 5.1 surround sound.
