DVD2SVCD CD Image Size

Two questions from newbie:

1) How do I find just the video file alone, as opposed to burning the .iso file?

2) More importantly, can someone show me how to use the program to get a typical .iso image to fit onto a CD? I've followed Doom9's guide, but it's not clear enough, or I'm missing something. I don't know what bitrate to use and how to tell the program to use a certain bitrate to get a cd image under 700mb. The whole max, min, average bitrate from the program is confusing.

I'm not sure I completely understand the questions, but here goes:

1. The "easiest" way to find the video file is to mount the bin/cue files under something like Daemon tools (linky), then navigate to the MPEG2 directory (IIRC) and you'll see the MPEG file there.

2. Again, I mount the image via Daemon tools, then do a "CD to CD" direct copy (even though it's actually a virtual CD). DVD2SVCD automatically picks the bitrate for me, so I've never had to worry about it. There is a tab that you can say, "if the original movie is 0-60 minutes, create 1 80 minute CD, if it's 60-75 minutes, create 2 80 minute CD's", etc. It's not always perfect, because it attempts to determine size by using a short segment of the original clip, so sometimes if you're near the edge of the limits for creating 2 CD's, it will actually create 3. Most of the movies I have done are Disney movies for the kids, which tend to be about 80 minutes, so it usually doesn't run to 3 cd's.

I don't know if this answers your question, but it has always worked for me.

Oh yeah, sometimes the image created is slightly larger than what will fit on an 80 minute CD, if you have asked the program to fit it onto that size. One of my burners does a good job of overburning and can usually handle it, and one cannot. If this is a problem for you, the easiest thing is to just always specify 74 minute CD's as your target, but burn them onto 80 minute blanks if they're slightly large.

Thanks for replying.

The thing I'm unsure is how to specify the bitrate so that it will fit onto a CD. Let's say the movie lenth is 120 mins, do I set the bitrate to 887-668? If so, where do I enter that value? Because I see 4 fields: "Max" "Min" "Min avg" "Max avg". Do I enter 887 in "Max" and 668 in "min"? But what do I do about the avg fields?
