Hi i have a set of avi movie files i want to burn onto a DVD disc. What formatt do they have to be in?

MPEG2, if you want them to play on most standalone DVD players. I believe that there are players that will play AVIs too.

Check www.videohelp.com to see what your particular model of DVD player will support.
