What do you guys think about standalone DVD Recorders like this one?

Is it too early to get one? Do they work well? Would it be better to get a computer DVD writer?

Thanks!

I'd think a DVD-RW for your computer would be more versatile. I myself am waiting until they're burning faster before taking the plunge.

Umm what forum should this go in?
Peripherals, perhaps?

On topic, I would personally choose the DVD Writer for the PC. I too feel it's more versatile and there are certain things you can tweak in the writing software which you cannot do with the stand-alone players.

I would wait until the end of this year before purchasing one. I personally feel it's a bit too early to take the plunge and spend hundreds of dollars on a writing speed that will probably go up jurastically, as did CD-RW drives. It wasn't long after 4x/8x drives were released when 10x and above came out.

This Panasonic unit is a DVD-RAM recorder. It's more of a digital VCR since it uses rewriteable DVD-RAM dics rather than DVD-R/W media. The DVD-RAM disks come in cartriges and do not play on anything else but DVD-RAM unit. Therefore, this is not really a DVD recorder because it does not create DVDs that can play in home DVD players. Computer DVD recorder is still a better solution. Especially if you do capture and editing on your PC.

I'm doing the same thing, it isent worth it right now. I'm sure it'll be MUCH cheaper in the future.
