DVD Writers and Upgrades?

Not new to computers but new to the hardware side. I want to get a DVD writer. The one I was checking out stated I needed a min. of a Pentium III.
I have a Compaq Persario 4880 which is only a Pentium II. Can the processor be upgraded? Would it be complicated for a newbie?
Do I need to buy a new computer or be left back? hehe.

if i were you i'd just lurk the hotdeals forum and wait for a dell dimension3000 on sale or something, then throw on a dvd burner from your local staples/officemax/bestbuy for about $40.
