dvd writer?

i'm thinking of buying a dvd +r/+rw drive. i'm not sure which technology is leading now though. i don't want to spend nearly 200 on drive if the technology is going to die out in 4 months. i'm sure my dvd player will pay the +r/+rw media but still i need to know what people think of it.

I agree ChampionAtTufshop, if I had to buy a DVD burner right now, I'd go for the Sony model, but personally, I'm going to wait a generation or two to see if one format is going to win, I don't want to own a Beta player while VHS becomes the standard, know what I mean?

I guess that could hold true but there is no use waiting if you have a purpose for the burner now. I use mine to convert old VHS tapes to DVD, back-up my PS2 games and now backup my DVD movies. I have a Pioneer AO3 and it works great in my PS2 and both of my DVD players (Sony and Panasonic). The price of media has dropped also, I just got a 100 pack for $.80 a piece. If and when they do decide what will be the standard, I am sure that there will be media available for those who still need it.
