DVD-Writer Questions and facts

Hi, I am looking for a DVD-Writer.... I am very confuse with the format out there. Basically I have done my research and are looking for opinions.

Basically my mainly use of a DVD writer is to keep movies files. If possible, I would like to copy several VCDs in to a DVD. I believe that that is possible but need some convertion. Anyway, if that's not possible, I could still live with archieving VCDs. With that in mind, since both DVD-R and DVD+R are able to do archieving easily, my focus should be shifted to which format can be read easily by conventional DVD Player.

Therefore, the main question here is actually... DVD-R and DVD+R which is more compatible among DVD Player on the market? Now and in the future...

thanks

ps: If you have experience in making several VCDs to DVD, please help me out. I am seeking a simple way to make it happen. Such as without any convertion and just burn it to DVD and play. Or auto convertion is great to. Thanks.

Thanks...

I am exactly trying to store multiple VCD on DVD...

can't we CHEAT the DVD-Player that its actually a VCD but in real life, its a DVD store with a few VCDs?

I will rephrase my question, is it possible to CHEAT the DVD-Player into reading Mpeg1 on a DVD-R or DVD+R?

Many DVD players play VCD- I'm just not sure which one, but it should say in the specs (mine did).
As far as putting many on one DVD, maybe you could merge them all into one file, make a chapter for each one, and put that all into a menu. I don't know if it could be done, but vcdhelp.com is a great resource.
