I just got a new Pentium 4 Win98SE computer. It has a Plextor 16/10/40 cdrw, a NEC 16X DVD and a soundblaster Live card. When I first got it, I could play audio CDs from either the CDRW or the DVD drive. Having installed various other CD-related programs, I'm finding that most of my programs won't play audio CDs in the DVD anymore.
The computer came with SB Live software installed. I have since added Musicmatch Jukebox 6.0, Easy CD 5.01, and WinMedia player 7.1. Musicmatch just does nothing when I try to play a cd, Winmedia says the .cda extension is not supported. Easy CD creator won't let me preview files on the dvd (says the cd may be in use by another program). Only SOundstream (part of easy cd) seems to be able to play audio files on the dvd ok.
I don't seem to have lost any other functionality, e.g. DVDs play fine, I can do dvd to cdrw copies, etc. So, this is a minor nuisance at best, it just means I have to use the Plextor for CD playing. But, I'm wondering why this is happening and if other problems will follow. I suspect there is some sort of conflict between all these programs or one program has zapped something, but I don't know what it is. Problem persists when I boot with all startup items disabled.
Thanks for any thoughts. I have a feeling it is best to just pick one or two cd-related programs and stick with them, but different programs have different features I like.
