DVD with Radeon 8500

When I play DVD with the included ATI player, the DVD locks up the whole system after about 2 seconds.

Also, when I use Power DVD it plays fine in Software mode, but when I enable Hardware acceleration, the playback has a lot of distortions and foreign objects in the picture.

Anybody know a fix to this problem?

Thanks

runnign w2k btw

The only reason to use hardware acceleration is if your system isn't fast enough to use just software.Stick with just software mode.

hardware looks a lot better than software, so there is a reason to use it. If you can play games fine, then something else on your system must be inteferring with it. Use the ATI multimedia check in control panel to make sure everything passes first.

Well everything passes except Memory Read Bandwidth and Memory Write Bandwidth.

I have PC-133 Memory, and I dont see how that is not fast enough to play back DVD.

Also, when I click on Details it says that there are a few Warnings I should look out for
1. Sound Card with Clock Stability -.58% (I have SB Audigy)
2. DMA for HD operation might not be functioning (I have a IBM 75GXP attached to my onbaord RAID controller)

The MB is a KT7A-R board.

Thanks for any other suggestions.

wow, that isn't good. You have something wrong there, my k6-2 used to pass everything. DMA is a must, make sure its checked for your HD. I've never even seen the soundcard error, or the memory errors before.
