DVD....whats the difference between 16x and 2x...

Doesn't all DVDs play at the same speed??? I am confused on this speed thing. Can anyone clarify?

Random access will be faster. Although movies play at 1x, not everything that ships on DVDs are movies. Software like Encarta, Technet and stuff like that which ship on DVDs will benefit from faster access, although movies may not.

I think the advantage is that when you're watching a movie on a 12x as opposed to a 2x, the fast-forward and scanning while watching the DVDs will be smoother. Switching chapters should also be faster. I have an 8x DVD-ROM and I notice that it switches chapters much, much, faster than my standalone DVD player.
