what exactly are the differences? aside from dvd- being more compatible in players, what do the technical differences mean to user?

frequently people mention lossless linking, CAV and CLV writing, but what good are those?

in recent preview article on longhorn, it mentions longhorn supports Mt. Ranier letting you use rw disc like floppy. which i believe only dvd+ supports, and was why microfsoft is backing the dvd+ standard. if so, than why doesn't everyone support dvd+ since that's great way of using rw, and might replace the floppy for everything except legacy stuff.

and buying single drive would be cheaper than combo drive, except for maybe the coming lite-on.

That's not true. DVD-R and DVD+R are essentially equal in player compatability.

And +RW is MUCH faster than -RW when adding data to a disc that already has some data on it.

The sony +/- drive is no more expensive than many single format drives.
