DVD video questions

I recently switched my monitor out for an hdtv and have a couple questions about some dvd stuff.

Regular dvd resolution is 720x400? what res is progressive scan? 720p?

Can computer dvd drives do progressive scan? does it depend on the software player or do you need hardware for it?

Are all dvd's capable of running in progressive scan or only some? Would I be better off just getting a stand-alone progressive scan dvd player?

Also, I have both pdvd and windvd, older versions that I got with video cards and stuff. Is there much difference between the 2?

Any tips or tricks you have for getting good results out of your comp's dvd drive would be appreciated, tia.

Progressive scan is not a resolution, it just means it is not interlaced video. And it is up to the dvd if the video was encoded interlaced or progressive.
