I used my WinFast TV Tuner card to record a show in its "DVD NTSC" format. It came out to 2.2 gigs but there's a certain part I'd liek to edit out that would be less than 650 megs. I am just wondering, if I burned that segment onto a regular CD, would a stand-alone dvd player recognize it or spit it out since it's not on a DVD disc? If not, how can I convert this to a SVCD format? Would I be losing alot of quality performing such a conversion (as opposed to having recorded it directly into SVCD format in the first place?)

Yes, spend some time @ VCDHelp. Some stand alone DVD players play SVCD, some don't. 2.2 Gigs is pretty small. What format is it in now? AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2?

Its in MPEG-2 format. It's about 1 hour 15 minutes long. My poor old 1st gen dvd player does not even recognize VCD let alone attempt a SVCD. I was also saddened that the XBOX player does not seem to recognize VCD either.

A stand-alone player won't play it because the bitrate is too high. It should normally recognize it, but won't be able to spin the CD fast enough to stream the video off of it. (data density on DVDs is higher, so it doesn't have to spin as fast)

A computer CD/DVD-rom drive should be able to play it though... If your stand-alone only supports DVD, you could burn it as a DVD onto a CD-R like you're suggesting, but you'd have to reencode the MPEG-2 file to a lower bitrate. (usually <2500kbps)

And the Xbox only plays DVDs.

. Many just dont play VCDs, especially older DVD players. My Toshiba would ONLY play DVD and pre recoreded audio discs. Nothing else. My JVC plays DVD/VCD/SVCD/audio/MP3/Picture Disc...basically anything.
