Hey, I need this help for tomorro because i have a big presentation due and it's worth a big chunk of my mark.
I made a video presentation (commercial) for school and my friend edited it and saved it to a VCD, with a file extension of .mpg and using MPeg2 compression I believe. The problem is that this file doesn't work on home DVD players, although I can watch the movie fine on my computer.

Can someone please tell me how to convert the info so I can burn it on a DVD which will be able to be seen on a television? Or just view it on TV period?

Tnx again for the help!

it's sounds like the DVD player that you are trying to view it with is too old. Usually only the newer DVD players can play burned DVDs, and VCD,s. Suck but you might need to get a new one.

A file thats just .mpg is not a VCD. If he used MPEG2 its also not a VCD, but an SVCD. (S)VCD have a specific directory structure and the video is in a different container. Most DVD players won't play regular .mpg on a disc. Most play VCDs, but a smaller set will play SVCDs. You need to determine what it is you have, and what you player can play. Also, if you plan on playing it on a different DVD player, you need to know if that player can play it as well. You can lookup what your player can do at videohelp.com.

If you have an MPEG2 file, you may be better off creating a simple DVD using something like TMPGEnc DVD Author. If you want to convert it to a (S)VCD, there is a free program called VCDEasy that can do it. You have to hunt around for the free version, as I do not believe the main site has it anymore.
