Hi people,

My Brother's (John's PC in my rigs) is giving me trouble. When I try and play a DVD with WinDVD 2000 2.1, it restarts the system.

I have tried older drivers and dx7 and the latest from nvidia with dx8, he has a standard MX, I have tried enablind and disabling the Hardware motion compensation too. The system is Duron based with a Creative (Samsung) 12x DVD Drive running Win98.

Any ideas? I have set bios defaults to safe defaults too but when the dvd starts up, the warning comes up about copyright, then it tries to play the film and the pc reboots.

I am gonna try bios update & latest 4in1's but I was wondering if there was anything else I could try.

I had this same problem with my brothers computer last week. I tried everything short of replacing the video card and nothing worked. I finally replaced the video card and everything worked. Here is a list of what I tried:
- Installing the drivers in a different order.
- Updating all the drivers (motherboard AGP drivers, video card, sound card, etc.)
- Uninstalling the video card, and re-installing it.
- Running a RAM test.
- Trying different DVD playing software.

The card that I was using was an ATI Pro Fury 2000 (i think), and once I replaced that everything worked great. It sounds like the same type of problem that you are having.

Good Luck!

Are you sure the Creative DVD drive is good? I've had bad drives that made the system do that. Try it in another computer, see if it works OK.
