anyone ever have a dvdrom tray not want to open when you press eject? is that sign that the drive is going bad? I mean it will open up eventually... it just takes a few tries. Is there some quick fix for this?
Friend of mines old computer used to do this, he just dosent use the DVD drive anymore (harldy needs it)
i'm assuming its one of those trayloading drives not a slot then right?
never found a fix but this has happened before..
does it have the same problem, if you right click on the drive in my computer, and click eject? If not, then the switch may be bad, if you have the same problem, it's the drive going bad.
If it is the switch/button, try taking the front bezel off and seeing if you can spot anything obvious wrong with the button/contact (ie, dirt, grime, loose, etc....)
edit: yeah do what stevty and tshock suggest first...
well if it's not under warrenty you might have to take it apart carefully and see if there's anythign jamming it, or if it requires lubricant. I bought a new plextor CD-RW about 6 years ago (£190!! ouch!) and the thing came really sluggish. Instead of taking the thing back I opened it up and oiled the moving parts and the sliders, etc. Worked a treat and is still going strong to this day I believe (sold it for £20 about 9 months ago...).
If it jams completely shut there is an emergency manual release available on most drives. Look for a little hole 2mm wide and poke a piece of wire or soemthign in it. The drive should pop open. Remember to turn your machine off first!
Don't spend too much time on it though, bear in mind that DVD ROM drives are dirt cheap these days. Maybe it's time for that DVD-R upgrade
