I would like to run my a DVD player to my TV. I don't want to upgrade my Radeon 32 DDR....so, what can i use? Decoder cards? I'm not familiar with hardware that will give me TV - out.

Thanks for your help!

**DVD player is Pioneer 16x DVD 106S

A decoder card will use a pass though cable, only play DVD's and no other windows apps or games, will only display DVD's at 640x480, and will use up one of your card slots.

A scan convertor will also use a pass through cable. But that's where the similarities end.
You can display anything that your monitor sees, on the TV. Resolutions for DVD playback and gaming can be 1600x1200x120hz. No card slots required. Will work with any video card, so "WHEN" you switch out your Radeon for a better card, you can still use the scan convertor. This approach will save you money in the long run, as video cards will not need TV out. You'll already have a permanent solution!

Some good models are TView Gold, and Averkey by Avermedia, as well as many others, priced from $40 to $200 depending on features.

I'm pretty sure that most DVD cards output to at the standard DVD res, which is 7xx by 4xx (not sure on the exact res), so TV output should look very similar to a standalone player. I'd go with a Hollywood + card. About $30.

Creative Dxr3? Decoder Board (same as Hollywood+?)
Specifications
TV output includes support for:
- NTSC at 640x400 and 600x400 at 60Hz
- PAL at 640x480 and 800x600 at 50Hz
- Composite and S-video signals

I was wrong though on the resolution of the $50 scan convertor I am using.
