my friend shot some stuff on Super8 and had it converted to DVD. now he needs to get the video off the DVD and into his editing programs. it's important that he not lose any quality, so xvid, divx, etc are out of the question. he does not need to be able to re-burn this or anything like that. he just needs the damn video data in an mpeg so adobe premiere can open it up.

are there any programs out there that will do this? (preferably free). everything i can find is either geared towards reauthoring or recompressing.

he does not need audio, just the video data. the disc is not copy protected.

thanks in advance.

Well you just want to Demux it. There are a myriad of Demuxing programs, like DVDLab is a full fledged authoring tool that also demuxes, but there are many tools which demux. When you do that you are just left with the mpeg2 and whatever audio streams you included (seperated).

hmm, i'm trying to do this with xmpeg, but the file won't play smootly when it's done (really choppy). are there any guides for this?
