DVD to iPod conversion tool freeware?

Basically I need to know of any way that I can get my DVDs to MPEG4 video compression 100% free. No stupid trial offers that only allow a generous 5 minutes of ripping time before you have to pay! And for anyone who suggests I use Google, I have and I got a bunch of trials.
