I don't think I have quite the space to store an entire DVD to my drive.

And if I had to make room, what's an average DVD.. 5-6 gigs? It'll only be one vocal track, no subtitles, etc.. so I'm guessing it can't be TOO large.

you don't have to but i don't reccomend it because your DVD drive will be spinning and seeking for many many hours. That's a lot of heat.

I only want to get about a 10 second clip from a bunch of movies. I'd rather not rip the entire DVD just to get a 10 second clip. Can someone recommend the best thing to use for this?

I ended up doing it the semi-hard way. I ripped the VOB file that had the clip I wanted, then used FlaskMPEG to convert. FlaskMPEG preview 6 didn't seem to let me start in the middle of a VOB file, so I used .594. Took a while, but at least I didn't have to rip the entire movie.
