I'm having a problem on my HTPC where dvd's stutter after running for 5 - 10 minutes. The system is plenty adequate imo, it's a 2.8ghz P4 w/HT enabled and 512 MB ram running XP.
The only things I can think of that would cause this would be maybe the video card (I'm using integrated "extreme" graphics w/32 mb memory allocated) or the fact that the dvd drive is on the same IDE channel as the hard drive.
Unfortunately, I don't have a spare video card to test with. In the device manager, the HD is device 0 on primary IDE and is running UDMA 5 while the dvd is device 1 on primary IDE and is running UDMA 2.
I've tested like 10 dvd's and some work while others don't. This is very frustrating... I just bought SW: Attack of the Clones and my life won't be complete until I can watch it . Heh, j/k but I just saw Revenge of the Sith in Italy (I don't speak Italian so I'm gonna have to see it again) and I want to watch episode 2 before I watch 3 again.
EDIT: Problem is non-app specific. PDVD, WinDVD, and WMP all do it...
