DVD sound and picture out of sync. Why?

I've got:
ASUS A7V133 / Duron 850 /256MB PC133
Matshita/Panasonic SR-8585 DVD-rom, regionfreeflashed
ASUS V7100/T GF2 MX 32MB video card
ASUS2000, for playing DVD movies
DVD genie, for region selection

I have a problem, when playing DVD movies the sound and picture get more and more out of sync. If I pause the movie and start again it?s still out of sync. If I stop the movie and start from the beginning stepping up to where I was It?s ok, but slowly gets more out of sync again.
The first DVD movie I played was a Jackie Chan movie and I thought it was just some Honkong KungFu-filmthing they?ve added for fun, but after 5 min I realised I?ve got a problem.
Anybody knows how to fix this? I?m pretty much a beginner when it comes to fixing DVD problems.

Out of interest what sound card have you got? And have you got the latest drivers for it? Some sound cards/drivers have a problem with 48kHz audio streams and incorrectly process at 44kHz and hence go slowly out of sync (drivers should fix it). Maybe try a different DVD player software.

Sound out of sync.. soundcard.. of cause!! Do I feel stupid or what, lol. Talked about my SBpci128 with a friend today, he wondered if I still run that card on the original drivers.. I do. Gonna download new drivers and try again, think this could be it.:)

Could also be the player software. For example, some versions of PowerDVD had a bug that caused the problem you describe. But I'd update all my drivers first and see if that fixes the problem.
