DVD Software (Nero 6) Burns DVD and it doesn't 'play'

Heya, I got this Nero 6 with my DVD burner and it had some stuff on it for burning DVDs. I open it, save the file after making all of my menus and stuff (1 hour video takes litterally 3 hours with this 4x dvd burner).. and when it finally finishes, I put it into one of my 4 things that play dvds and the only thing that happens is the menu comes up, loops the song in the backround for 10 seconds.. You hit play, and nothing happens! I don't know what to do.. is it the software or my burner? What do you suggest to do/or switch to? Nero could burn a VCD with the same material on it and that worked.. but the quality SUCKED.. and it wasnt on DVD.
 
Sounds like a problem with the DVD authoring software.

Also, almost all of the 3 hours you're quoting is the time it takes your computer to encode the video file into a DVD compliant MPEG-2 format.

What software are you using for the encoding?
 
I have Nero Vision Express 2-SE
I have the MPEG-2/DVD Plug-In and it stats (While the 'Make DVD' Option is selected) that it will be converted in the burning process.

The file is highlighted on the menu, in fact it is the ONLY option availible on the menu, no chapters, no outakes, or anything like that. Just one option 'Play' and thats all. But that don't work..

I dont want to copy disc's.. I want to make my own.. as in have a menu editor and etc.. I dont want any ripping software.. I got Nero 6 and the plug ins for a reason.. now if anyone knows.. please
 
VCDs don't work on my schools DVD players.. Will SVCD? I don't have time to test because of the time it takes to convert the file into a different format and converted into something else. Deadline on this project I have is coming soon, and I don't know what to do.

I have Nero Vision Express 2-SE as well as Nero 6. Which allows me to burn 'Super Video CDs' but I am guessing that will take a long time to burn as well. I have the time for 1-2 burns, but then i need to take it into the school the following day to see if it works..

If there is other software alloted that I can buy before Monday, lemme know so I can get it or buy it online.. Whatever, anything. Something that will work.. I do have Sony DVD Architect.. but I do not have time to learn how to make menus, and learn how to save it and export it to dvd.
