Just to let anyone know whos interested, I just tried out DVD Shrink 3.1, and found that it works perfectly for backing up DVD's.

I have been using Sonic MyDVD to back up my digital video camera tapes, but I have a ???

What software do I need if I want the video back off the DVD and on to my computer (for editing / splicing / etc)?

DVD Decrypter is one of the best DVD ripping programs and my personal favorite. You can use it to rip DVDs that you have created to your hard drive for editing, etc.
 
upgrade to DVD shrink 3.2 as it works better that the 3.1 version I heard. I just started with 3.2 so I cannot confirm this but there has to be something inproved.
