DVD Shrink Re-Authoring Question

I am a noob when i comes to backing up DVD's so this may be a dumb question. When using DVD shrink to re-author a DVD without the menus and extras and just choosing the AC3-DTS audio track and no other audio will the DVD play fine in the stand alone player and automatically recognize the audio as DTS? Or do you need the menu structure on the DVD to have it recognize the DTS audio. Thanks for your help in advance.
