System is as follows:

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard
2500+ Barton 333mhz
1GB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM
IBM HDD 60GXP 60 GB
Plextor 708A DVD-/+R/RW

I'm using Nero Ultra Edition as well as DVD Shrink 3.1.7.

Ok, my problem is as follows:

Currently I will burn an entire DVD then when I play it back on my stand alone, during the last chapter or two of the movie it will skip and end up making the dvd stop playing.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Anyone going through the same problem?

Same thing here. I also have an 8x writer and the auto speed detection would pick speeds that were too fast for the media. Always wrote successfully but froze near the end of movies when played. I think writers write fastest near the end of the disk. If your pushing the limits then this is where you will see the problem. I now force mine to write at 2.4x and have not had problems since. 4x would probably work, but I always do it when I'm not going to be around my computer so I don't care about speed.

I've been hearing this too however, what I just realized is that if I re-encode the DVD or remove the menus etc, it will freeze. If I do not need to compress the DVD it will not freeze. Weird huh?

Well I just thought I'd update this situation. I opened up a new pack of Memorex DVD-Rs and the burning is going fine. I guess I just had a bad batch of DVD-Rs. It still kinda sucks that I have an entire bad stack of DVD-Rs.
