i can get full movies on a 512stick thats got at least 200mb of pdf on it

using virtual dub

resize to fit screen. (pda is 320x320 so take a film, say 720 x 520, divide 720 by 320 to get a ratio, then divide 520 by that number (to get the height of the image) but now you need to make sure that the height u get is rounded up or down the closest number divisible by 16)

process every other frame ie decimate by two basically cuts fps to 15, which is adequate on a small screen

process sound as mp3, mono, 22 Khz, again which is just fine

aim for about 170-200mb video file, and the sound adds about 30-40mb ontop....you get a file no bigger than 250, so in theory 2 films perfectly watchable on a 512 SD card

using MMplayer on my Zire72 (one with the new intel cpus 312mhz) i have pulpfiction and xmen2, i watched Pulpfiction in the library today whislt working.

But with my way you can get almost 2 on a 512, 30 fps, stereo sound, and looks almost as good as the dvd it came off of and you loose hardly anything :p

Example: Army of Darkness. 30fps, stereo sound, and you can count the hairs on everyones head and NO blocky images. All that and its only 380mb big :D

If anyone can host I have some crappy screen shots that do it no justice but can get the idea and see how clwar it really is.

New Update: I tried it again and it works!! Only problem is I didn't know which audio track was which and I compressed it with the commentary track :( Oh well, at least I know it works!

Yeah the picture looked very good, it was smooth and I didn't see any artifacting at all. The file size was something like 380MB, movie was The Matrix.

I don't get it.

Why spend hours and hours shoehorning your DVDs to fit on a 4" screen???

Images of Rain Man glued to his Watchman come to mind.... lol :thumbsup::D

I do it for like I said. I can watch movies in my bed and not desturb my wife. Plus it is not like it is going to go to waste because I am saving the files afterwards for later viewing so I dont have to go through this again. Also this saves me $20 a pop instead of having to buy my movies all over again on a UMD disk. The way I figured out is so damn close to dvd perfection and the files are small enough I wont ever have to buy another movie for it. Just a regular one and do what I wrote up.

Another reason for me is I have childreen and alot of movies I wont be able to watch around them for a long long time and this way I get to watch them again and not have to worry about my childreen seeing or watching it warping thier fragile little minds (just mine) :D

So granted for some it might not work out or understand how it could be useful but if you actually use it for what it was made for this little sob is the next best thing to sliced bread ;)
