DVD Shrink - Making a Multi-Movie DVD?

I've been using DVD Shrink to make backups of my DVDs when travelling.

In many instances I just convert to DIVX/XVID and burn 6 movies onto one disk to watch at airports etc.

I was wondering if it is possible to put say 2 or 3 reduced quality DVD Shrink conversions onto a single DVD?

I have only done the direct duplication via Nero and not at all familiar with the procedure to add more than one movie to a recordable DVD.

Anyone have any experience in doing this - also, is the quality of DIVX/XVID transfers superior to the reduced DVD format which woudl negate any benefit in doing this?

Thanks in advance :)

good question... I'd think that within the same VIDEO_TS folder, you can plop as many VOB files as you want in there so long as the filenames don't conflict. Then on your player, you just advance chapters manually to your 2nd movie.

Of course to achieve this, you have to stop DVD Shrink from doing the burning after the 1st set of VOBs are generated. In Nero, drop all your VOBs in that folder instead.

I have put double features, including all the extras, onto one disc using dvdshrink, and didn't notice a loss of quality. I haven't tried for a triple feature.

Depends on the movies. You'd have to do some IFO editing to get nice menus for switching between movies, but I believe that's what IfoEdit is for. And I believe that DVD Shrink can be set to simply create the files, instead of burning them.

The long - but perhaps more elegant - way of doing things would be to take the films, convert them to KVCD, then author the resulting KVCD files onto a DVD again, with TMPGEnc DVD Author. You don't get a sucky blockfest, and the procedure can cram about 600 minutes of material at better-than-VCD quality onto a single DVD, playable on any standalone or computer setup.

That's easily done by not having a DVD/R in the writer :)

I'd need to convert to 2 folders then see how the filenames look I guess?

How did you achieve this then? ;)

I'll check this over the weekend - I've not heard of KVCD before - it this a similar format to SVCD?

Looks like I have studying to do on IFO Editing too ;)

It's easy. Just put the dvd to be copied into your dvd rom, and the blank disc in your burner, and tell dvdshrink to do it's thing. Full back up. LOL

Not really, more like VCD, but an improved version. I believe the site is

www.KVCD.net

I'm perfectly aware of how to back up a single DVD disc...;)

I'm talking about using DVD Shrink to reduce the file size of TWO (2) DVDs and then put the TWO (2) separate movies on ONE (1) DVD writeable disk.

Assuming that you only ever use double feature DVD disks with two movies on them from the factory then thats not what I'm asking about ;)

GTD, I was just copying a double feature from a single disc. However, I remember seeing a guide, somewhere, that shows how to use more than one disc to make a custom dvd using dvdshrink. So, if I can find that guide again, I'll post a link. Someone else might have the guide. If you do, please post the link.
