4.7 won't even fit on a 4.38 DVD ;)

How much are you having to shrink it to get it down to the size of a disc? Are you keeping just the movie and one soundtrack or the extras and all sound tracks?

Ha! Yea, i know.

Im trying to get the movie and 1 sound track (english). DVD shrink achieves 89.7% compression, but this is still ~4.96 (IIRC, closed the app a while ago). Obviously i need to get it down to 4.3. Is this even possible?

Of course it's possible. Unless you changed the size of Shrink's output from a standard 4.7 DVD (4.36GB actual) to custom, the final size should be right at 4.36GB. Just because it's saying 89% compression doesn't mean it's 4.9GB.

It sounds as though some audio and/or subtitle streams are disabled, therefore reducing the overall size and increasing the compression %.

NO. My impression is that DVD shrink cant do any better than that as far as compression. I have been all over that app's options and there is NO way to make a 5.5G DVD fit on a 4.7G. That is, without any mods/etc.

i think i've compressed a dvd as far as 55% or so. certainly farther than 89%. i compress 8 GB dvds down to 4.7 all the time. if you cant do better than that, you must be doing something wrong. if you are in 'dvd structure' mode, click on the folders, then look at the options for compression, it will work.

I've had a couple DVDs that DVD shrink couldn't get small enough, and that was taking out everything but the movie and the 2 channel audio. I've never had Pinnacle (I believe that's what it's called) give me problems but it takes much longer.

So when you use DVDshrink, the file that it outputs is bigger than 4.7? Did you actually go through the whole process or are you just hung up on the % in the DVDshrink menu?

no offense, but people stumped by DVD Shrink should probably stay away from technology, and only use AOL...

That's what I think. I routinely (read almost daily) compress dual-layer 9+GB DVD's to 4GB. I'm not sure what you're doing wrong but it has to be something. Do you realize that you can change from "Automatic" compression to manual and specify whatever you want. Granted, sometimes it won't let you below 50% or so but that should be sufficient for most everyone's needs.

I promise you that DVDShrink can do it. :)

All of you doubters, (read as a$$holes) can fvck off. I know what im doing and i have way more training/education/knowledge of video compression than most of you. FYI, Im trying to use a specific piece of software and sought help. This piece of software is not able to compress 5.5 GB to 4.7 (for those of you who are doubters, compression algorithms work differently with different signals--duh. You may get a 2:1 ration with your Britney Spears video, but thats not the case here). Honestly, this is the most hostile this forum has been toward me.

@UCJefe, if youre getting such high compression ratios what options in the app are you using?

Apparently you don't know what you're doing, since DVDShrink can easily take 7.89GB down to 4.3GB.

I don't know why you are having problems. Just two or three days ago I fit 7.4gb onto a 4.7 single layer disc with dvd shrink. I've never got any errors or messages telling me things couldn't fit.

Did you look at the screens? Custom, auto, makes no difference. The original movie is ~5.5GB. Is there some other compression option im not aware of...my original question before all the j00z 7UV 4O7 shite.
