DVD+-RW won't work in XP - help

I just bought the Lite-on dvd+-RW from newegg.com. The bios recognizes the drive but it doesn't show up as a drive letter when I boot into xp.

I have the dvdrw and a dvdrom connected to the secondary ide channel.
When I check device manager I see both the DVDRW and the Dvd rom in there but they both have the exclamation mark indicating there's a problem.

My computer has a dual-boot setup with xp and win2k. When I booted up with win2k, both drives worked just fine.
I've tried uninstalling both drives and the 2nd ide channel from device manager and letting the os redetect them. No luck.

The DVDrom is set as the master and the dvdrw as the slave. I've tried the dvdrw by itself as the master with the same result.

I also tried putting it back the way it was and that doesn't work either.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

I tried setting both drives as cable select and also tried the dvdrw as the master by itself. Neither way works.

I also tried putting my old dvdrom and cdrw drives back in the way it was and those don't work either.

It seems to me there is a problem in registry but I don't know where to look.

It's not a hardware problem because the new drive works fine when I boot into win2k.

Tried uninstalling the ide channels from device manager. Then restart and windows will find them and install anything hooked up to them.

Fixed it.
I put the DVDrw as the master and the DVDrom as the slave.

Then I edited the registry according to microsoft article #314060.

I had uninstalled and reinstalled Pinnacle studio including using their registry tool to remove everything. I think this might have caused the problem. At least it's the only thing I can think of.
