DVD-RW suggestions

Hi guys. I'm looking to get a DVD-RW drive. I'm mostly going to use it to burn movies I've made or downloaded. Most of them are in AVI, MPEG, or WMV format. Can someone give some suggestions on which are the best internal recorders that aren't too expensive. I'm looking at this Plextor right now, let me know what you guys think. I've never had much luck with CD-RW drives so i'm doing research this time.

The Plextors are apparently of very high quality, but I find them overpriced.

I prefer the Pioneer A07 burner. It's fast, stable, and of excellent quality. I still have my A05 burner that I purchased over a year ago, and have yet to produce a coaster. It still works great.

Others have said great things about the newer NEC drives; they apparently do dual-layer burning. Just keep in mind that media for that format isn't available yet.

thanks. I will check out the Pioneer A07 drive.

I too heard good thing about the Plextors which is why I was looking mainly at them but thanks for your input

I just ordered the Nu-Tech DDW-082 from Newegg for $72. It performed well in the Anandtech review, as well as a CDFreaks review. It has good firmware support, and burns a lot of 4X +R media @ 8X.

The NEC ND-2500A is a good drive. It can burn anything with high quaility, but may not be the best for some speed freaks. Use NERO software and not Roxio with this drive for best results.

I have a DVD+/-RW LITEON SOHW-812S BLACK RT burned 50 dvd's not 1 coaster so far with onidtech media.... I choose lite-on because all my drives are now lite-on imo some of the best quality for the price. I went through 2 sony drives .. over 4 years but not one lite on has failed.

I'm personally a Lite-on fan...I have a 4x DVD+R Lite-on 401s burner (modified into an 811s), and I just love it. Why not try a Lite-on 812s for $82.99 at Newegg?

Although I've never tried them, the NEC 2500A's have rave reviews all around...plus they are ten bucks cheaper than the Lite-on 812s' - $72.99 at Newegg.

Ditto, well almost ditto. I have an A04 that I got more than a year ago. 😉 I like the 107D for quality of the burns.

thanks guys, all your suggestions are much appreciated. I'll check them all out.

PS: Is dual layer the next big thing?
