dvd-rw problem with Nero

ok, so i have a plextor dvd-rw/cd-rw drive. and i was burning some data today. it was burning with no used buffer for some reason, i found it strange but didnt care since the stuff burned fine. but now when i try to burn stuff, it would just give me a message saying burning failed after writing like 30 percent of the stuff. the entire time, the buffer would oscillate between 100% and 10%. it is strange. anyone have any ideas? i am using nero 6 btw. is it possibled that my drive is fvcked?

It sounds very much like the drive is using PIO mode instead of DMA. You want a drive to be using DMA transfers! If using XP or Windows 2000 than look in device manager, IDE controllers> assuming your burner is on the secondary IDE> properties> advanced setting and look at the box for current transfer mode.

my plextor is actually the primary master. i formated my computer last night because i thought it was windows, and it worked today briefly as i burned a few disks. but now, whenever i pop in a cd/dvd, blank or what not, it freezes the computer. and once i pop the disc out, things are back to normal.

oh yeah, i checked the transfer mode, dma is available option is selected. maybe the drive is messed up? i have no idea how i am gonna get it replaced. since i ordered the drive from dell and dell refused to rplace it.
