DVD-RW not only problem w/ Sid Meier's Pirates! DVD

My DVD of this game played OK when used with a diff drive. But, my BenQ DVD-RW 1620 balked after install and demanded that I use the original disc. As I *was* using original disc, I suspected the drive. I updated to firmware B7w9 and still a no go.

At this time I was at odds until I thought to check if there was a patch. Sure enough, v1.02 was available. I updated the game and now it runs fine.

Oops! The game locks up during battles.

You would think a high end system configuration would be able to play it.

That game should run fine under older/slower systems, at least in my experience. Maybe try some disc emulation software along with a no-CD patch. Sometimes that's the only way around finicky copy protection programs. Don't you hate feeling like a criminal?
