DVD-RW not detected by Nero...what's up with this?

I just installed a LiteOn LDW-851-S DVD-RW. Detected in BIOS, detected in Windows, reads CDs fine.

I am running the latest version of Nero 5; 5.5.10.54. The option for "burn DVD" is still grayed-out, and in "choose recorder" I don't see it. What's up?

If your using an OEM version of nero that came with another burner, it is not going to recognize the new burner. Plus it isn't on the list.

Well, it's a full version of Nero 5. Originally 5.5.8.1 or something like that....fully upgraded via Nero's free upgrades to the latest version.

This burner is new on the market. I wonder if Ahead will release support for it being that Nero 6 is their focus now?

I guess I could use the Sonic MyDVD that came with it...though I haven't checked out the proggy yet.

Shoot..I hope Nero supports it! Time to email them...

I updated the model number...my bad. It's an LDW 851-S; still don't see it on the list though. The older 451-S is , though.

Hmm, I don't think a firmware update will make a diff, since my burner is not on the list that sctakeshi was nice enough to link me to. :(

Besides...the drive is brand spanking new (8x!) I don't think there's even new firmware out yet.

Dang. I guess I'll be purchasing a full version of Nero 6 soon. :disgust:

Had same issue with a friend's Liteon CDRW/DVD unit. All I did was install a new update of Nero. Maybe Nero 6 ?

You'll need nero 6.3 nero 5xx will not see the new drive.

And good luck with your Lite-On dvd rw drive, you'll need it. :disgust:

I returned mine after 1 week of headaches & bad burns,A piece of advice... Stick with DVD+R media with this one,it burns DVD+R media much much better than DVD-R.

DVD-R media was nothing but a nightmare for me with a lite-on dvdrw drive.

Well, seems I'm not exactly off to an auspicious beginning w/this drive, eh? ;)

CDRlabs.com gave the older version (411/451) a very good review...so I had no probs getting it's newer big brother, the 811/851. I've had very good luck w/all my LiteOn opticals...I'll reserve judgement for when the time comes. ;)

Thanks for the advice, links and tips, guys.

I guess I'll go get a copy of Nero 6 and patch it up to the latest version. It's just ironic that the full version of Nero 5 has the DVD there, but it's grayed-out. Stinks. :disgust:
